Solar Boost 2000E is a fully automatic, very high performance 12 volt current boosting photovoltaic (PV) charge controller. Advanced patent pending technology allows Solar Boost 2000 to increase charge current up to 30% or more. Other charge controllers without this advanced technology simply can't deliver the charge current provided by Solar Boost 2000. Don't waste your money by throwing PV power away! Solar Boost 2000 does much more than increase charge current. It offers series pass Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) voltage control using highly efficient and reliable power MOSFET transistors. PWM control is superior to simple on/off type controllers and leads to a more fully charged battery, with longer life and less maintenance. Solar Boost 2000 also includes electronic current limit which prevents output current from exceeding 25 amps. This allows you to use the full 25 amp capability without worrying about overload or nuisance fuse blow from excessive current. With other PV controllers you must leave some unused current capacity for those infrequent times when PV output is unexpectedly high.

A digital display is provided to monitor PV charge performance. The display shows battery voltage, PV array current and output charge current. You can actually see current boost working by noting the difference between PV array current and output charge current.

Fully automatic temperature compensation of charge voltage is also available to further improve charge performance and battery life. The SensorLug™ battery temperature sensor includes 20 feet of cable, and can be ordered as an option.

Solar Boost 2000's patent pending technology operates in a very different fashion. Under these conditions Solar Boost 2000 calculates the peak power voltage at which the PV panel delivers maximum power, in this case 17 volts. It then operates the PV panel at 17 volts to extract maximum power. Solar Boost 2000 continually recalculates the peak power voltage as operating conditions change. We call this peak power tracking. Input power from the peak power tracking controller, in this case 75 watts, feeds a power converter which reduces the 17 volt input to battery voltage at the output. The full 75 watts delivered at 12 volts would produce a current of 6.25 amps. A charge current increase of 1.8 amps or 40% is achieved by converting the 22 watts that would have been wasted, into useable charge current. This example assumes 100% efficiency to illustrate the principal of operation. Actual boost will be less.

Battery Manager™ 6210 Interface

An optional interface is available which will allow Solar Boost 2000 to operate as a power unit slave to a Battery Manager model 6210. When used with a 6210 controller, Solar Boost 2000 assumes the sophisticated three stage temperature compensated charge regimen matched to battery size and type provided by the 6210. Up to five Solar Boost 2000's may be operated from a single 6210 controller. The 6210 interface is available at the time of purchase, or can be added at a later date. 

The charge current increase you can expect is variable. Current increase varies with PV temperature and battery voltage. Lower PV temperature increases available power, while lower battery voltage increases current for a particular input power level. This means that the greatest current increase occurs when you need it most, in cold weather with a discharged battery!

What you can be sure of is that Solar Boost 2000 will deliver the highest charge current possible for a given set of operating conditions. When conditions are such that extra power is not available from the PV array, Solar Boost 2000 will operate as a high performance series pass PWM controller. Charge current increase field test results obtained using four 75 watt PV panels in southern California are shown in the table below. Your performance may vary due to a variety of factors.
